Book Fatigue

I came really late to the game in the Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire book series, so I quickly read through all the books and am caught up.  I was jonesing for something else female protagonist/supernatural related, and Amazon suggested the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter novels.  They’re super easy and pretty mindless - just what I want in a book to read while I’m commuting home on the train after a 14 hour work day.

I’m up to book 8 (Obsidian Butterfly) out of 18 (!!!), and I’m just plain exhausted.  I’ve got total series fatigue, and I’m finding myself annoyed with all the characters and what they’re doing.  Usually, I love a ridiculously long read, as I can stay with my characters longer.  But this is just too much.

I’m thinking of finishing this one up and taking a break from Anita Blake.  I’m open to any genres, any length - but I’m not currently in the mood for anything too heavy (i.e. Gaddis, DFW, etc).  I did just recently read Gone With the Wind for the fourth time, so that’s off the table.

So…anybody have any suggestions for a good one-off book?
